A Scalp Massager Can Help Hair Grow Faster

We are always on the lookout for new ways to maintain and grow healthy hair. We are always interested in new ways to grow our hair. It works, but is it really effective? We asked Francesca Fusco, dermatologist, and Morgan Rabach, to help us understand it.

What is a Scalp Massager?

A scalp massager, as it is appropriately named, is a device that massages the scalp. There are many sizes and shapes available, some even electric, but most of them are portable and can be carried around. Fusco claims it can exfoliate, remove dandruff and increase follicle circulation. Fusco also believes scalp massagers allow serums and hair products better results. Rabach also agrees that scalp massagers can increase blood circulation, reduce stress and tension, and even help with hair products.

 What is the process?

You can gently comb your hair with a scalp masseuse as it glides against your scalp. Some scalp massagers are suitable for use in the shower with wet hair while others, such as the electric, can only be used on dry hair. Rabach suggests that you use the device in circular motions to get the best results. This will help to loosen the dead skin cells.

A scalp massager can be used as often as you like. Rabach suggests that you can use one in the shower to remove dandruff and help with psoriasis. The water will soften dead skin cells.

Fusco loves to recommend scalp massagers for patients with thin hair. She advises them to use it prior to applying any products such as a scalp serum. Fusco explains that blood vessels become more dilate when there is good circulation, which will aid the skin to absorb product better.

Is massaging hair possible to make it grow faster?

The short answer is no. Rabach says that there is no scientific evidence supporting increased hair growth. Massage does increase blood circulation in the area.

Fusco concurs and recommends that anyone suffering from hair loss due to poor circulation use a scalp massager. Fusco recommends that hair growth serums be used with a scalp masseur to ensure product is absorbed efficiently. While this isn't going to make your hair grow faster, it can help with dandruff and seborrheic skin conditions like seborrheic dermatitis.

Although it may not guarantee hair growth faster, a scalp massage can be a very useful tool for hair care.
